There's a 'Buzz' around Park Grove, York

Year 5 pupils at Park Grove Primary School organised a fantastic community breakfast to celebrate the opening of the school’s new wildflower garden.

The whole school had worked with the organisation ‘Urban Buzz’ on the project to create their new garden.  The garden not only provides a beautiful new space for the pupils to enjoy but also creates new habitats for local insects and wildlife.

The garden was officially opened on 27th June.  The Y5 Young Leaders showed great teamwork and organisation as they served breakfast to their whole school and invited parents and guests.  They also showed excellent resilience and problem solving as last minute bad weather meant that the event had to be held indoors!

Donations made towards breakfast were donated to local charity ‘Lollipop’ who support children and young people with hearing loss, to ‘Urban Buzz’ and to the Archbishop of York Youth Trust.

Rozy Brian, Strategic Lead for Primary Awards, said;

“I was delighted to attend this event and celebrate with Park Grove Primary School.  Year 5 did an impressive job of organising and hosting the event which brought the community together in a wonderful way and also supported local charities.  They are great examples of ‘being the change they want to see’.”
