Dearne Advanced Learning Centre Celebrates Young Leaders

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu congratulated and awarded 30 Year 7 students with their Young Leaders Awards today.

Miss Pollard at The Dearne said: “We are very proud of all of our students and seek to enable them to flourish in the classroom and well beyond it. We’ve been delighted to see how the Young Leaders Award has been a valuable part of helping our students to grow in their confidence that they can make a difference in the world.”

To attain their Awards, all students completed individual, school and community action projects. As part of the Award Ceremony, students presented their work on their personal, small group and community challenges. These included cooking for their families, baking for their teachers and participating in a sponsored ‘Sleep Out’ to raise money for Shelter: a housing and homelessness charity. The Archbishop then addressed all gathered in the Lecture theatre and formally presented the Awards.

The Archbishop of York said: “I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all at Dearne and to hearing more from students and staff about their experiences on completing the Young Leaders Award. I want to congratulate all young people who are empowered to be the change that they want to see, in their homes, schools and communities”.

To date the Youth Trust have enrolled over 450 Primary and Secondary schools to the Young Leaders Awards, empowering some 50,000 young people to put leadership into action and make a difference in other people's lives through acts of service and community volunteering.
